“The word “doula” comes from the ancient Greek meaning “a woman who serves” and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after birth; or who provides emotional and practical support during the postpartum period.”
Now you know.

I’ve been dragging my ass and whining a lot about writing code. Last week I decided to suck it up and I coded my first php site. From the html mark up to the php includes. Just me and a whole lot of video tutorials.
Go me!! (and google)
Next step wordpress integration…
My friend and neighbor Nancy Sorensen is the organizer of the cool culinary event. I jumped at the chance to do a poster Iron Cupcake Madison. I mean kids books and cupcakes, what could be more adorable? Also the proceeds go to literacy network.
Warm weather has got me thinking about CSA summer soup and salads!
Here’s a link to an amazing farm I help out at over the summer ~ Grassroots Farm ~ also I designed this site for them! It was integrated into wordpress with help from my awesome friend and fellow designer Stephanie Mckenzie.
I am so moved to be a part of the solidarity movement in Wisconsin. I cry daily over the acts of support and kindness that have flooded my community. This will not go away. We are fighting for the rights of people to be valued over profits. It’s about the unions, it’s about health care, it’s about education, it’s about public lands, it’s about freedom from tyranny, it’s about free speech. We will not go away.
This is a postcard design I just finished for a project my brother Ash is putting together in Columbus. You can check out some of his artwork here – http://www.ashkyrie.com/.
“Visualizing the Experiences of War is a project that aims to bring a better understanding of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan in a meaningful and accessible way. In this project local veterans and artists have been partnered and the veterans have shared with the artist their personal stories of war. The artists of diverse backgrounds use multiple techniques and media including poetry, painting, photography, and sculpture to express the veterans’ unique experiences. The Visualizing the Experiences of War exhibition displays the artwork created through these artist and veteran collaborations. Curated by veterans Ash Woolson and Erica Slone.”
Okay, so I’ve been neglecting this blog a bit, what with graduation and starting a new job and all. I wanted to share a few new projects I’ve been working on. My sweet (almost) sister Lisa Jacobson, owner of the ever popular Mermaid Cafe is starting catering business with David McKercher and asked me to do their logo. FUN!! It is called Sunshine Grasshopper and is focused on local food and sustainability. Here’s final version of what we worked up.
